‘Standard Precautions in the Irish healthcare setting’ based on current Irish national guidelines provides valuable training and ongoing education of standard precautions for staff operating in an Irish hospital environment. Four key content areas form the basis of this training DVD: Infection Prevention & Control; Hand Hygiene; Waste Management & Decontamination Issues and Personal Protection. The DVD was developed in cooperation with the Infection Prevention Society and leading experts in the field of infection control, microbiology and waste management. By demonstrating the practical application of standard precautions, this DVD provides an easy transfer of skills to the healthcare worker. This DVD is designed to facilitate both tutor-led group training sessions and individualised self-paced learning; is easy to follow; and suitable for staff at all levels, clinical and non-clinical. Currently, the DVD is used by over 90% of HSE acute hospitals and many private hospitals in Ireland.

Support Materials

A CD-ROM comprising a Facilitator’s Guide, DVD dialogue, Participant Workbook and Answer Sheet is also included. The guide supports Infection Control Nurses or Trainers providing tutor-led group training sessions for healthcare workers. It provides suggested timeframes and discussion topics for both pre and post DVD viewing. The workbook assesses participant learning and acts as a training record for compliance purposes.
